06/21/11 - British tennis ace,
Andy Murray, had special support for his first match at Wimbledon, when he beat Daniel Gimeno-Traver 4-6, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 on opening day in London.
Andy currently stars in HEAD’s brand new short film, following the tennis star at home, on the court and even in the shower as he interacts with his fans in a completely unexpected way -- they give him a giant thumbs up while wearing Facebook
“LIKE” icons! The viral, entitled
Get Closer, is the first part of HEAD’s unique Facebook campaign enabling fans to interact with Andy Murray throughout Wimbledon.
Over the last two weeks, HEAD invited all Facebook fans to send their cheers and personalized messages to Andy via the HEAD Facebook page. Over the past weekend, a selection of the most inspirational cheers had been printed onto HEAD’s special Limited Edition White Racquet Bag, which Andy took out onto Centre Court.
For each round Andy plays during the tournament, HEAD will continue to add more and more messages to the bag. One lucky winner will win this unique memorabilia after the tournament – signed by Andy, of course.
Over 1,000 Facebook users have already registered for a chance to win the bag, and left their comments in the HEAD Tennis Facebook application to cheer for Murray.
Needless to say, Andy Murray showed genuine appreciation for the special support: “I definitely haven’t had too many days like that! In the lead-up to and during Wimbledon, it really means a lot to me to have support and encouragement, it makes a big difference on the court,” said Andy, and thanked his fans with several comments and postings on Facebook.
