07/07/10 - The United States Professional Tennis Association Texas Division is hosting the first state playoffs for QuickStart tennis players August 14 at the Kingwood Country Club in Kingwood, Texas.
Teams for the QuickStart Texas state playoffs will consist of eight players – two boys and two girls – in each division: QuickStart 8-and-under (QS8) and QuickStart 10-and-under (QS10). While QuickStart is unisex, this system will ensure an equal representation of both genders in the playoffs. The format for the event will be a round robin. Flights will be formed to guarantee at least three rounds of tennis for every player.
QS8 will play on a 36-foot court with the red ball. QS10 will play on a 60-foot court with the orange ball. Servers may bounce and hit a forehand to start the point. Scoring is as follows for both age divisions: The first to win four points wins a game and the first to win four games wins the set. Each round should last approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
“To participate in a tennis playoff and awards ceremony, and play at the water park here at Kingwood Country Club will be a great tennis experience for these kids,” said USPTA first vice president Randy Mattingley. “By holding this playoff, we hope to promote QuickStart and USPTA Little Tennis throughout the state because we need more pros and coaches running these programs.”
The schedule for August 14 is as follows:
Playoffs – Noon-5:30 p.m.
Awards Presentation – 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Kingwood Water Park – 6:30-8 p.m.
Entry deadline is August 1. Cost is $240 per team ($35 for each additional player). Hotels and rates in the immediate area are available. Contact Randy Mattingley by e-mail at randy@kingwoodtennis.org or by phone at 281-358-2181 for more information.
