Texas’ Trace Fielding and Iowa’s Marina McCollom win singles titles at the USPTA Indoor Championships

05/01/09 - Trace Fielding of San Antonio captured the men’s open title at the $5,000 United States Professional Tennis Association Indoor Championships held April 24-26, at Lakeville Lifetime Fitness in Minneapolis. Fielding defeated Cory Ross of Denver, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, for the championship. He later joined forces with Winfield Stephens of St. Louis Park, Minn., to win the men’s open doubles title. Marina McCollom of West Des Moines, Iowa, defended her women’s open title by defeating Marilyn Baker of Eagan, Minn., 6-1, 6-1.


The tournament also included events in the following categories: men’s 35 and 50 singles, men’s 45 singles and doubles, men’s open doubles competition, and mixed open doubles categories. The competition featured many of the top men and women tennis-teaching professionals in the country.
