02/14/08 - The USTA Tennis & Education Foundation, the philanthropic and charitable entity of the USTA, today announced that is now offering an easy way to access information and support the Foundation’s mission to use the sport of tennis to help children pursue their goals and highest dreams by succeeding in school and becoming responsible citizens.
With the click of a mouse, lives can be changed through tennis and education. People can now access information about Foundation programs and events or make donations by visiting http://foundationgiving.usta.com. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
“We are thrilled to be offering people a more convenient method of learning about and supporting our programs,” said Karen Martin Eliezer, Executive Director of the USTA Tennis and Education Foundation. “We still welcome the traditional payment methods, but we also realize that online giving will help increase our donor base as well as donations for all of our programs.”
Established in 1994, the USTA Tennis & Education Foundation promotes – through tennis – educational excellence, good citizenship and self-improvement to at-risk and other special needs youth. The Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships to American youth, and supports new initiatives that reach out to inner-city youth. It also supports community tennis programs that link tennis with education to provide positive role models, academic assistance, and life skills for the prevention of substance abuse, violence and school-dropouts.
Donated funds will support the Foundation’s various programs, including Aces for Kids, the national initiative of the Tennis & Education Foundation. The goal of this program is to promote healthy lifestyles by combating childhood/adult obesity by providing disadvantaged, at-risk children the opportunity to learn to play tennis and improve their academic skills in a structured format. At Aces for Kids program sites, children between the ages of 5-18 learn about healthy nutrition and lifestyles, responsible citizenship, study skills, and computer literacy, and interact with a mentor and other students; attend college preparatory sessions, and, learn to play tennis in a team format.
For those who would like to be a permanent part of tennis history, pavers along the “Avenue of Aces” on the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center -- home of the US Open -- are available for purchase with a donation of $1,000 to $25,000. Surrounded by beautiful landscaping, it forms the pathway between the east gate entrance and the historic Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Additionally, tickets for USTA Tennis & Education special events, can be purchased online.
