01/11/07 - 2007 marks the 80th anniversary of the United States Professional Tennis Association and since it was founded, the USPTA has been at the forefront in bringing its members certification and education through cutting-edge technology. Through many “firsts” listed below, the Association has introduced information and state-of-the-art technology to certify the most qualified tennis professionals, offering them education and modern teaching techniques. As a result, the USPTA is today’s leader in modern certification and education.
Below is just a sampling of the USPTA’s noteworthy firsts:

1970 – First to administer a tennis-teacher certification exam
1995 – First to offer free, online education through the Web site uspta.com
1997 – First to offer modern tennis technique specialty courses
2004 – First to integrate modern tennis into its certification exam
2004 – First to form player development program and first to provide free education tools on modern tennis through inserts in its ADDvantage magazine for members

The USPTA’s multimedia department has been instrumental in expanding the Association’s educational opportunities. USPTA began the multimedia department in 2002 to produce DVDs and videos for its education and certification programs. The department has now produced approximately 100 educational DVDs. In addition, the Association expanded its multimedia capabilities even further in 2003 when it began producing a series for The Tennis Channel, “On Court with USPTA,” which has served as an avenue to develop and present modern material for tennis players and teaching professionals.
The multimedia capabilities and the latest technology allow members to watch a broad selection of DVD presentations from home and in some cases earn credits for extended certifications. The USPTA is truly unmatched in its efforts to continually incorporate the most modern and up-to-date teaching techniques in its certification test. The technology alone delivers modern tennis-teaching techniques to members like no other source in the world! Through its educational agenda, USPTA leads the way in modernizing tennis-teacher certification and introducing modern tennis into everyday tennis instruction.

Founded in 1927, USPTA strives to raise the standards of the tennis profession while promoting greater awareness of the sport. USPTA offers more than 30 professional benefits to its 14,500 members worldwide, including certification and professional development. With more than 300 days of educational opportunities throughout the year, USPTA offers the most comprehensive continuing education program in the tennis industry.
